The short version

BillWise is offline-first and requires no bank connection. Your bills, subscriptions, EMIs, and payment history are stored only on your device. We collect no personal data.

1. Who this policy applies to

This Privacy Policy describes how the BillWise Android application handles information. It applies to anyone who installs or uses the app.

2. Information we collect

We do not collect any personal information. BillWise has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no developer-operated backend server.

3. Information stored on your device

Everything you enter into BillWise stays on your device only. This includes:

  • Your recurring payments, bills, and subscriptions (name, amount, dates, type, category)
  • Payment history and logs
  • Reminder settings
  • App preferences (currency, date format, theme)

No bank account connection is required or requested. All data is entered manually and stays on your device.

4. Optional Google Drive backup (Pro feature)

The Pro version includes an optional encrypted Google Drive backup. If you use this:

  • Data is encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before being uploaded
  • It is stored in a private app folder on your personal Google Drive, accessible only to you
  • We do not have access to this folder or its contents

5. Notifications

BillWise sends local notifications for payment reminders, trial endings, and expiry alerts. These notifications are generated entirely on your device. No data leaves your device to generate them.

6. Purchases (Google Play Billing)

The Pro upgrade is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see or receive your payment details.

7. Permissions the app requests

  • Internet — used only for the optional Google Drive backup/restore and for processing the Pro purchase
  • Schedule exact alarms — used to deliver payment reminders reliably at 7 AM daily. Required on Android 12+
  • Accounts (GET_ACCOUNTS) — used only to support Google Sign-In for Drive backup on some devices
